What it’s Like to Work For Gen Zers

Guest blogger: Skys Mom

So many articles ask the question: What will Gen Zer’s be like in the work force?

Well, I have a completely different perspective.

How about asking:
What is it like to work for a Gen Zer?

How about working for 12yr olds who wants to commission you to create websites for them or pitch you ideas, from inventions to books.

How about them proposing they will pay you what they have from their Christmas/birthday/allowance monies?

I’m talking about Young people who offer you a percentage of their earnings after they become “big”.

How do you turn these young entrepreneurs down?

You don’t.

You don’t say, “become big at what?”
Because they have already shared & began sending you their ideas & thoughts.

They will create content & start sending it to you regardless.
They will fill your inbox before lunch time.

They are persistent & think the world is their oyster.
They don’t take no for an answer & will find a way to get things done.

No one is untouchable to this generation, they will find a way to contact the top people in most industries & actually get a returned email.

They have this lifelong gift of the internet at their fingertips & use it to their advantage.
They know what they have & how to navigate it better than anyone.

Unlike many generations older than themselves, they are Excited about today & even more interested in helping to build a fantastic Tomorrow.

I’m talking about 12 yr & 13 yr old kids who already found a domain name they liked & checked to see if it was available on GoDaddy for basically free & register it.

They haven’t had any business courses in school. However by 7th grade,
these kids are writing business plans, commissioned companies by word of mouth, & started their own business.

They are contacting, producers, brands, CEO’s of Fortune 500 companies & placing adds for assistants & developers on Upwork.

They have enthusiasm, which makes me believe someone is seeing our world differently, through optimistic eyes.

They know how to speak with adults, because via email & text, it doesn’t matter who is on the replying end.

They are open minded & willing to listen to opinions.

Change is a constant with this generation, and they aren’t afraid to try anything.

Working with them is an equal playing field.
You do not feel like the superior or the more experienced, or even the adult.
They communicate with you as if you are all peers.
I don’t think they see age or even realize what intimidation feels like.

They email you what they want to see as if you had a magic wand that can make everything they envision just appear.

They aren’t afraid to ask, try, push or press the bar higher.

They have nothing to loose. They will throw ideas at you that you wouldn’t believe. Nothing is beyond their reach.
In their eyes, anything is possible.

“You can make it work!”.
Is their motto.
They never ask,
“can you make it work?”

They push you to design limits you weren’t sure about.
They will tell you exactly what they don’t want to see on their website/app or invention.
They will send you input & corrections you never asked for & didn’t know you needed.

They may not know what they love, but they know what they don’t like.

They move fast & their creativity is constantly flowing.
They know how quickly a site must load, “instantaneously”!
No waiting for this crowd.

You will learn from them & they from you.

They live in a mutual respect world. They are willing to share their knowledge with us.
And are just as open to learning new ideas.

Generation Zers are coachable as well as coaches.

They are a now generation & want things worked on, fixed & added in a split-second.

They will check up on you & your work & will not hesitate to send you corrections before they get to school.

No holding back any feedback with this generation.
They won’t mislead you into thinking something is good, when in fact it is nothing like the way they envisioned it.

They nip mistakes in the bud. This is business, not personal & they know how to separate it.

They are full of compliments, help & encouragement for each other.
They know how they want to be treated and treat others the same.

They are patient with each other & willing to take some time to walk one another through something the other may not understand.
They share their knowledge with each other & want to work in teams.
They respect, encourage & are excited to hear different ideas & ways of thinking.

They value a mentor, but know they have just as much to bring to the table from their perspective.

They want to be heard & need us to hear them.

They have vivid ideas and need to be taken seriously.

You need them on your team.

Generation Z is here,
right
now!
